Bureau For Children With Medical Handicaps (BCMH)
BCMH is a tax-supported program of the Ohio Department of Health that helps children with special health care needs and their families. The goal of BCMH is to assure that children with special health care needs and their families obtain comprehensive care and services.
THE DIAGNOSTIC PROGRAM
The purpose of the diagnostic program is to rule out a medically handicapping condition, diagnose a condition, and help to develop a treatment plan. There are no income requirements to utilize the diagnostic program. The child must be under the age of 21 years and be an Ohio resident. The diagnostic workup must be completed by an approved BCMH provider. To locate a BCMH provider please call (440) 576-6010 option #2 and ask to speak to a nurse.
THE TREATMENT PROGRAM
The purpose of the treatment program is to provide ongoing services for medically and financially eligible children. BCMH requires that third party resources such as Medicaid or other health insurance pay first. BCMH supplements insurance when families have inadequate coverage.
